Soo Ro

Principal Scientist, Biophysics Group Genentech

Soo Ro is a Principal Scientist in the department of Biochemical & Cellular Pharmacology at Genentech, where she leads SPR and biophysical strategies to advance early small-molecule discovery against complex and membrane-protein targets. With deep experience across fragment-based discovery, DEL, and macrocyclic modalities, she specializes in protein engineering, stabilization, and biophysical characterization to enable high-quality hit generation. Previously at AbbVie, Soo served as lead protein biochemist for challenging targets in aging-related diseases, developing constructs, purification workflows, and orthogonal binding assays. At the Summit, she will share SPR methodologies that overcome membrane-protein instability and detergent-related challenges to deliver reliable interaction profiling.

SPR Methodologies to Advance Early Small-Molecule Programs for Challenging Membrane Protein Targets
2:00 pm
  • Address key obstacles in SPR analysis of membrane proteins, including protein instability on the sensing surface and interference from detergent micelles
  • Showcase strategies for optimal detergent selection and membrane-protein stabilization to preserve activity during SPR experiments
  • Demonstrate how these optimized conditions enable reliable interaction profiling between small molecules and diverse membrane-protein classes
